Patients with orthodontic or orthopedic appliances are more likely to have dental plaque accumulation as home oral hygiene procedures are hampered and rendered more difficult by the presence of the device itself. Oral hygiene sessions of the orthodontic patient will be more closely approximated over time (about every four months) to help improve oral home hygiene and preserve the health of the periodontal and dental elements. The patient is instructed to use dedicated brushes and toothbrushes and will be monitored to ensure their correct usage.
